Two 911 calls for medical aid were made from Los Angeles Lakers star
Kobe Bryant’s Newport Coast home in March and July, police said
Friday.
Bryant made the second call for assistance on July 3, a day before
being arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old
Colorado woman. He has since been charged with one felony count of
sexual assault.
Police said Bryant had made that 911 call at about 12:25 a.m. The
initial call got disconnected, but dispatchers were able to
reestablish contact with people at the home and talked to three
different people, including Bryant, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve
Shulman said.
Bryant acknowledged making the call and said he called to get
medical aid for someone other than himself. Paramedics helped a woman
at the residence, but she was not transported to the hospital,
officials said.
The earlier call came at about 6:23 p.m. March 5 from a friend of
Bryant’s, who said that someone at the home needed medical assistance
and that they had called Bryant, Shulman said.
Bryant was not home at the time, but paramedics did assist a woman
and transport her to the hospital.
Shulman confirmed that it was the same woman who was assisted in
both calls, but said he couldn’t confirm or deny that the woman was
Bryant’s wife, Vanessa.
Shulman said officers conducted an investigation and determined
that no crime had been committed.
Officials could not provide more information because requests for
medical aid and medical information obtained by paramedics during
such calls are protected health information.
