$50,000 damage from dumpster fire
A structure fire that began in a dumpster on Old Newport Beach
resulted in $50,000 of damage by the time the flames could be put
out.
Three engines, two trucks, a paramedic unit, a battalion chief and
18 Newport Beach firefighters responded to a call at 11:09 p.m. of a
fire at 349 Old Newport Road. When they arrived, a dumpster to the
side of the building was consumed by flames, which were spreading up
the outside wall, onto the roof and into the attic, a fire official
said.
Those flames were put out with water. Firefighters then did an
interior check, identifying hot spots with thermal imagers. Most of
the damage was confined to the wall, roof and attic, the official
said.
No injuries were reported, and officials are still investigating
the scene.
