Mustangs’ Topps All-CIF
Costa Mesa High senior Ann Marie Topps, the Co-Most Valuable Player
in the Golden West League, has been named All-CIF Southern Section
for a third straight softball season.
The University of Oregon-bound shortstop, who belted an Orange
County-best 11 home runs this spring and represented the Mustangs in
a county all-star game, is a first-team selection in Division III.
She was a second-team All-CIF pick in Division IV as a junior and a
sophomore.
Topps hit .507 with a slugging percentage of .849. Of her 37 hits,
22 were for extra bases and she drove in 41 runs, while scoring 26.
She led Coach Rick Buonarigo’s Mustangs to the program’s first league
title and a fourth straight trip to the CIF playoffs. Mesa finished
17-11 after a 4-2 first-round loss to Redondo May 23.
Topps earned first-team all-league each of her three varsity
seasons.
