Third-grader Ally Brahs said the reason she picked No. 99 to write on

her shirt was because 99 is “the highest number.” That and 19 was

taken, she added.

No matter the numeral, Brahs added to her Pilot Cup goal-scoring

column with three more Friday for Harbor Day as it defeated Andersen

No. 2, 7-0, at the Farm Complex to remain undefeated in two games and

secure a spot in a quarterfinal game today at 1 p.m.

Brahs scored the first three Harbor Day goals in the first four

minutes Friday, picking up where she left off Wednesday against

Carden Hall. She scored all four goals in that game.

Once 3-0 hit, Harbor Day co-coaches Jim Conner and Paul O’Connor

began regular substitutions and the score remained that way to

halftime.

Harbor Day blasted 20 shots on goal, keeping Andersen goalkeepers

Victoria Burkhead and Hayley Womack busy. Burkhead made four

first-half saves, using her big kick to return the ball upfield for

Andersen forwards such as Tobi Gaber to lead counterattacks.

Harbor Day’s defense stepped up, with Corinne Damon thwarting many

chances.

In the second half, Damon booted the ball into the left of the net

on a penalty shot for a 5-0 lead with 16 minutes remaining in the

25-minute half. Damon said it was her first goal scored on a penalty

shot. An Andersen defender was called for a foul after a collision

with a Harbor Day opponent within the six-yard box, eliciting the

penalty shot.

Katie Burke, who constantly caused problems for Andersen on breaks

near the sidelines, added a goal as did Kathryn Conner and Kaylee

O’Connor.

“Kaylee dominated the middle and Sarah Cox was very steady,”

Harbor Day Coach Jim Conner said. Charlotte Gadbois also penetrated

the Andersen defense to continue several scoring chances.

Kaylee O’Connor added two assists and Burke tallied one assist.

“They are all talented players,” Andersen Coach Claudio Venturini

said of Harbor Day. “We had a couple of opportunities to challenge. I

was proud of how we played. It was much better than the last game.”

Catherine Sullivan dribbled through two defenders and fired just

to the left of the goal in the first half for Harbor Day while Nikki

Borchard added strong defense.

Zoya Mohan led the Andersen defense alongside Stephanie Wheeler.

In other girls 3-4 action:

* Newport Elementary No. 1 2, St. Joachim 0: Kayla Greely and

Alexis Jenkins scored goals for Newport, which improved to 2-0 in the

Pilot Cup and advanced to the today’s quarterfinals. Newport defeated

Davis in the opening round, 4-1, as Madison Walsh scored two goals,

and Francesca Cappelli and Mia Van Bergh each added one. The defense

also played well, led by goalies Nicole Vento and Ricki Archie.
