Snyder advances to CIF semifinals
Corona del Mar High senior Garrett Snyder, testing the singles field
after claiming CIF Southern Section doubles titles the last two
seasons, won twice Friday to advance to today’s semifinals at the
section individual tournament at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington
Beach.
Snyder, the No. 4 seed, eliminated Stanley Sarapanich from
Crescenta Valley, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 16, then swept
Brentwood’s Eric McKean, 6-3, 7-6 (6-3 in the tiebreaker) in one
quarterfinal.
The University of Texas-bound standout will square off against
top-seeded Jeff Das of Troy in a 10:30 a.m. semifinal, also at
SeaCliff. The final will follow today, at a time contingent on the
completion of both semifinals.
UCI’s Maxam honored
* SAILING: Sophomore Lauren Maxam, a skipper for the UC Irvine
women’s sailing team, has been selected to the Pacific Coast
Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association All-District Team.
Maxam, along with teammates Emily Robb, Emily Hemberger, Kelsey
Cochran and head coach Mike Pinckney, will be representing UCI at the
Intercollegiate Sailing Association North American Collegiate
Nationals in Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., at the Grosse Pointe Yacht
Club June 2-4.
