Braves rough up Red Sox
Pitchers Max Frisbie and Camden Nicholson held the first-place Red
Sox scoreless through five innings as the Braves secured a 9-3
triumph in recent Newport Beach Little League Majors action.
Nicholson began the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning
and was followed by Grant Keligian’s double and single.
Parker Stone, Dillon Campbell, Andrew Fulcher and Noah Molnar
contributed to the Braves’ hit attack.
The defense was led by Jeff Jones, Frisbie, Jack Gerdau, Josh
Harrison, Michael Hayde and Kevin Tsou.
Mitch Sands hit his first home run for the Red Sox, who were also
led by Merrit Scott.
In other Majors play:
* Nicholson homered, tripled and singled for the Braves as they
defeated the Giants. Tsou and Harrison each added doubles in the
Braves’ attack.
Jeff Jones pitched a complete game to earn the victory and doubled
to left field.
Keligian, Frisbie and Hayde also contributed to the offense, but
the defense again shone.
Nicholson teamed with Hayde and Noah Molnar to turn a double play
to preserve the win. Stone, Frisbie, Gerdau and Andrew Fulcher
supported with strong defense as well.
In AAA action:
* Yankees 16, Red Sox 11
The Yankees won for the sixth time in seven games with a torrid
offense led by Preston Risser’s double and two RBIs, along with
timely hitting from Nick Gooding, Tanner Trauthen, Trevor McGhie and
Michael Haeri (triple).
Jack Murphy, Benny Townsend and Patrick Pearson showed strong base
running skills and solid defense by Eric Frazier and Jeremy Fox
helped preserve the win.
Bryce Ashton, Risser and Graeme Fraser combined for eight
strikeouts and limited the Red Sox to six hits. Fraser struck out the
side to end the game.
