Quiksilver wins little league season opener
Taylor Preston and Blake Hoffmeister each scored three hits as
Quiksilver made their 2003 debut a success by downing Team Nolan,
12-5, in Laguna Beach Little League AAA Division play at Riddle
Field.
The defensive play of Alex Bekken, Jack Pillsbury, Cody Alter,
Bradley Barnes, Zach LeBon, Jake Jackson and Alec Loechner
contributed to the victory.
Ben Hanson and Travis Sampson each had two hits, Remmy Zone
singled and Austin Hilleman struck out four in two innings pitched to
lead Team Nolan.
In other games:
SG Roofing 4, Laguna Beach Police 2
SG Roofing scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then
turned away a bases-loaded situation in the sixth to rally for
victory.
John Barnett singled and scored on a throwing error for a 1-0
Police lead, but SG Roofing gained a 1-1 tie when Drew Romero singled
and took home on a passed ball in the third.
In the fourth, SG Roofing’s Michael Hyden led off with a single,
stole both second and third base and scored on Tyler Kesler’s deep
fly to center field for a 2-1 advantage.
In the fifth, Evan Rubel walked and scored on Michael Seal’s
infield grounder and Seal later scored on an errant pick-off attempt
to make it 4-1.
The Police scored again in the sixth when Derek Knott walked and
later scored to make it 4-2. Sammy Witte came up with back-to-back
plays at first base to register two outs, but the Police still
managed to load the bases.
Hyden put the game away when he fielded a comeback hit to the
mound for the final out.
Five Feet 8, Courtesy Auto Body 6
Five Feet held off Courtesy Auto Body in their season opener.
Alex Iannotti began things for Five Feet with a first inning
single. He later scored on Rex Strombotne’s triple.
Iannotti pitched the first two innings and struck out the side in
the first inning.
Courtesy Auto Body scored three runs in the second inning behind
walks to Santi Pierini and Chris Barwick and singles by Matt Perella,
Patrick Stevens and Zach Cornwell.
Griffin McMullen singled and stole home for the next Courtesy Auto
Body run.
But Five Feet rallied with three runs in each of the third and
fourth innings.
A two-out, third inning rally included singles by Drew Wheeler,
Iannotti and Strombotne, the latter two getting RBIs. Strombotne went
on to steal home.
In the fourth, Billy Vail and Cristian Menes each singled and
scored on Riley Lozano’s single. Brian Vail scored the other run on a
single.
Pierini also had a two-RBI double for Courtesy Auto Body.
Five Feet 26, Coldwell Banker 4
Alex Iannotti hit a bases-clearing triple, Billy Vail doubled and
later scored on brother Brian’s single, Riley Lozano hit a two-run
single, Drew Wheeler hit an RBI double, Rex Strombotne singled and
doubled, Charlie Jackson had an RBI single and Sam Hilburn, Tylan
Kang and Evan Steinhoff each had key hits to power Five Feet.
Coldwell Banker scored its runs on hits by Alex Hope, Kellan
Lindley, Drew Kanner and Paul Dunn Donbrink.
Five Feet 11, Laguna Beach Police 6
Alex Iannotti singled, tripled and struck out four of six batters
he faced in two scoreless innings, Rex Strombotne singled and tripled
and Brian Vail, Charlie Jackson and Cristian Menes each had singles
to lead Five Feet.
AA Division
Javier’s 7, Batting Cages 6
Madeline Hawkins delivered a two-out RBI single to lift Javier’s
to the victory.
Owen Weber and Conner Ward each finished with two hits and Adam
Rodner, Birch Weber, Andrew Koumas, Ricky Coury and Cayman Elkin all
singled for Javier’s.
Tim Preston singled and scored twice and Ben Kahn, Garrett Burk,
Jon-David Horne, Kaito Lee, Adam Farsheed and Alec Williams each
singled for Batting Cages.
Oysters 4, Crane 0
Teague Hamilton’s single in the fourth inning scored Joe Redfearn
and Barrett Thornton to break a tie and send the Oysters toward
victory.
Warren Abbate completed the scoring with a two-RBI double to
center field.
Bryan Ludloff, Nathan Thomas and Preston Grand Pre combined on the
mound to two-hit Crane.
Alex Davis struck out two for Crane.
Oysters 6, Batting Cages 1
Teague Hamilton and Preston Grand Pre had two hits to lead the
Oysters.
Ren Kramer, Garrett Burk and Adam Farsheed all singled for the
Batting Cages.
John Jory 2, Brandy’s Friends 0
A.J. Eagle had a two-RBI sacrifice, Cole Kessler doubled and Derek
Strombotne singled to lead John Jory.
Calvin Garmshausen finished with six strikeouts.
Zach Graff tripled for Brandy’s Friends.
Ebell’s 6, Oysters 2
Cameron Hauer delivered a key, two-RBI double and the hitting of
Robert Clemons and Grifan Fair allowed Ebell’s to win this battle of
unbeaten teams.
Pitchers Nicholas Channels of Ebell’s and the Oysters’ Bryan
Ludloff each struck out four in the game’s first two innings.
