BEST BUYS

Laguna’s best shop for new designs of Native American jewelry is

Kokopelli. The jewelry and pottery gallery opened here in 2000, and

originally started more than 25 years ago in Arizona. Pottery comes

from Pueblo tribes: Santa Clara, Acoma, Gemez and Navajo. It also

carries Hopi kachinas, sand paintings, Apache baskets, dream

catchers, mandelas and more. Prices are extremely reasonable, and if

you mention this Best Buys column, you’ll receive a 20% discount.

Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at 332 Forest Ave. Information: (949)

376-9388.

UPSCALE GARAGE SALE

Customers who shop at artist Susan Margaret’s Studio say that it

reminds them of old Laguna. It’s an upscale garage sale. Everything

is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind. The Bohemian shop reflects her

creative passions: photography, painting, knitting and design. A

former muralist, Margaret now designs lighthouses; cement Buddha’s

with custom finishes, crosses, lighthouses, journals and iron pieces.

And there are hand painted gourds with gold leaf, commissioned

paintings and garden sculptures for vines. Plus purses from Vietnam,

vintage jewelry and books. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily or by

appointment. 1257 S. Coast Highway. Information: (949) 233-2488.

CALIFORNIA POTTERY SOLD HERE

Oak Street Antiques specializes in California pottery, especially

the very hot Bauer pottery, mostly from the 1930s.

“It was a sleeper for a long time,” says owner Karen K. Maroney.

“It’s now a national obsession.”

After World War II, Los Angeles- based Bauer couldn’t compete with

prices on cheap Japanese imports and eventually shut down. Maroney

finds pieces through estate sales and contacts back East. Fiesta

pottery and Laguna’s Brayton Pottery is also sold here. Plus small

furniture pieces, postcards and trade cards from the late 1800s,

glassware, linens, old books and vintage toys. The shop was written

up in the October issue of Art and Antiques magazine as a find for

antiques. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Closed Thanksgiving and

Christmas only at 1103 S. Coast Highway. Information: (949) 494-6628.

CONSIGNMENT GOING FAST

Inventory moves fast at On Consignment. Affordable home

furnishings and accessories are set below market value, and prices

decrease with each passing week. The owners Janet Wagner and Teri

Hoops allow items to stay a maximum of 10 weeks. If not sold, all

consignments are donated to local charities or given back to the

consigner. Furniture, jewelry and art are popular here. Plus bargains

on kitchen items. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and

noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1190 Glenneyre St. Information: (949)

ON CONSIGNMENT ‘TIL SOLD

The Consignment Corner buys, sells, and trades everything but

clothing. Easy going owner Art Dedinsky says he generally lets pieces

stay until they sell, but he reserves the right to mark them down.

Consignments in good condition are accepted before 4 p.m. A clearance

sale is underway to make room for more items. Lighting, paintings,

furniture, porcelain, jewelry and decorator items. Open 10 a.m. to 6

p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sun. 888

Glenneyre St. Information: (949) 497-1010.
