Mizuno Sluggers take second place
The Mizuno Sluggers, a 12-and-under traveling baseball team
featuring several players from Huntington Beach, recently captured
second place in the 14-team President’s Day Classic tournament at
Chino Hills.
The Sluggers met the nation’s top-ranked 12-and-under team, host
Chino Hills Storm, in the tournament final.
The teams were tied, 4-4, in the sixth inning but a late Chino
Hills rally resulted in a 6-4 Storm victory.
To reach the tournament final, the Sluggers first had to get past
the second-ranked Corona Yankees in semifinal round action.
Tied at 1-1 through eight innings, the Sluggers grabbed the lead
for good in their ninth at-bat when Steve Ledesma tripled to begin
the inning and later scored for a 2-1 lead. Two more runs crossed the
plate to give the Sluggers a 4-1 victory.
