SCORE offers counseling and workshops to small business owners
The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the United States.
However, not everyone can be lucky enough to hit on the ‘a restaurant
that sells just coffee’ idea and small business owners often find
themselves struggling to be profitable.
Michael Munz of the SCORE organization said that failing to write
a business plan is a fatal mistake that many small business owners
make.
“Taking the time to prepare the smallest of business plans would
eliminate many of the pit falls [of small business ownership],” he
said.
Munz also said there are several common denominators among
successful business owners: having a good working knowledge of their
targeted business, understanding needed accounting and controls,
obtaining adequate capital to start a business and weathering the
rough times, knowledge of strong marketing and promotion techniques,
and of course, good people skills.
If you are considering small business ownership, SCORE offers free
counseling and workshops at a nominal fee to educate and assist the
small business owner in the areas of marketing, business plan
development, selling techniques, e-commerce, computing your business,
financing your business and international trade. Many clients opt to
attend a workshop and follow up with one-on-one counseling as often
as needed.
