Callaway leads UCI to 74-59 victory
FULLERTON -- UC Irvine’s Christina Callaway notched a game-high 21
points and Kristen Green added 15 points to help the visiting UC
Irvine women’s basketball team to a 74-59 Big West Conference victory
at Cal State Fullerton.
The Anteaters were in control almost all the way, giving way to a
brief 15-14 deficit in the early going.
Fullerton’s last fling was at 23-23 before the Anteaters pulled
away for good.
The Anteaters used a 12-0 run to go up at halftime, 35-23, and
pushed the advantage to as many as 21 points late in the game.
UCI shot 52% from the field, including just under 58% from the
floor in the first half.
Callaway’s 21 points came on 7 of 14 from the field, and she was 7
for 11 at the line. She also had six boards.
Green was 6 for 13 from the field, hit both free throws and had
eight rebounds.
Lisa Faulkner had 12 assists as the Anteaters improved to 13-8,
6-4 in the Big West. Fullerton is now 5-15, 3-6.
The Anteaters continue in the Big West hunt on Thursday when they
host Idaho at the Bren Events Center.
