CdM unable to turn the corner
University High’s Trojans stayed in the hunt for a portion of the
Pacific Coast League championship with a 66-5 victory at Corona del
Mar Friday night, as the host Sea Kings could not turn the corner in
their bid to overtake the Trojans in the second half.
University, a game off the pace of league-leader Northwood,
grabbed a 37-26 lead at halftime and was never seriously threatened.
“We cut it to seven and had possession,” said CdM Coach Ryan
Curry. “But a wing to point pass was intercepted and they went down
and layed it up.
“And, we cut it to six, but they came back with two free throws to
make it eight points, again.
“We just seemed to be one basket and one good defensive stop away
from really making it interesting.”
Pancho Seaborn scored nine of his 17 points in the fourth quarter
and Kevin Mancillas scored 11 points.
University was paced by A.J. Moskus, who scored 25 points, and
Charles Valentine with 17 counters.
University improves to 18-5, 7-1 in league. CdM falls to 11-13,
4-4.
