Newport, Aliso Niguel finish in 1-1 deadlock
Newport Harbor High’s Trisha Orth headed a ball into the net three
and a half minutes into the game, but Aliso Niguel’s Christina Paet
equalized later in the period and the two Sea View League teams
finished deadlocked, 1-1, Tuesday at Newport.
Senior Taryn Flamson took a corner kick from Amy Burlingham and
passed it to the top of the six-yard box where Orth headed it in.
Sailor goalkeeper Kara DeMille made five of her six saves in the
second half, a half that saw the Wolverines, 5-3-4, 0-0-2 in league,
and ranked ninth in CIF Southern Section Division I, outshoot
Newport, 6-4.
The Sailors, 3-6-5, 1-0-1 in league, outshot the visitors, 7-2, in
the first half. Aliso snapped Newport’s three-game winning streak.
Elsewhere in high school girls soccer Tuesday:
CdM 4, Laguna Beach 0
Lauren Loe and Olivia Muzura each scored twice and goalie Tanisha
Senaratene had four saves as Corona del Mar opened Pacific Coast
League play with a 4-0 victory at Laguna Beach.
Loe and Kelly Morgan each had an assist for CdM
Corona del Mar improved to 4-3-1, 1-0 in the PCL.
Estancia 3, Santa Ana 3
Visiting Estancia High rallied three times against Santa Ana,
before coming away with a 3-3 Golden West League tie.
Marina Abdul, Maria Sanchez (on an assist by Elise Carroll) and
Rachel McMasters each erased one-goal deficits with scores for the
Eagles (2-5-5, 1-2-1 in league).
Both teams failed to score in two 10-minute overtime periods.
The Eagles visit crosstown rival Costa Mesa Thursday at 5 p.m. at
the Farm Sports Complex.
St. Margaret’s, 5-0
Host St. Margaret’s High blanked Sage Hill School, 5-0 in an
Academy League game. Jessica Demorest scored three goals while Dylan
Gwaltney and Amy Magill each tallied one for the Tartans.
The Lightning, which fell to 2-8, 1-1 in league, had Vista Murphy
and Laura Gordon at keepers.
Vista had six saves and Gordon a dozen.
