Registration on for youth hoops

Huntington Beach Youth Basketball is still taking registration for

its upcoming season at three local sites.

Signups for the league, open to boys and girls in the first

through eighth grades, will continue today through Saturday.

A fee of $35, which includes a team shirt, is required from all

participants.

Additional signups will be taken after Jan. 11 if spots are

available.

Registration is being taken at Murdy Community Center, The City

Gym and Pool and Edison Community Center.

Evaluations and practice games are scheduled to begin Saturday and

again Jan. 18 and 25.

Regular season games will be played each Saturday beginning on

Feb. 1 and continuing through March 8.

Playoffs are tentatively scheduled for March 15 and 22.

Girls’ club soccer tryouts underway

NHB Black Futbol Club is looking for players to compete on its

girls’ Under-11 Division soccer team in upcoming tournaments and

State Cup.

Candidates must have turned 11 years old by Aug. 1, 2002.

Weekly practices are being held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5

p.m. at the NHB soccer field at Hope View School near the southwest

corner of Slater Avenue and Edwards Street.

Rookies Basketball signups end Friday

Registration for Rookies Basketball, a league offered through the

West County Family YMCA, will be held today and conclude Friday.

The six-week season begins Jan. 27 and runs through March 6.

The West County Family YMCA offers a noncompetitive, progressive

sports program serving Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Garden

Grove, Westminster and surrounding communities.

The sports program is designed to teach children the fundamentals,

emphasizing skill development, character development, sportsmanship

and safety.

Membership is open to everyone. Financial assistance may be

available for those participants unable to pay the full cost of

membership. Programs include child care, youth sports, day camps,

resident camps and parent/child activities.
