Former Clinton aide will speak at UCI

On Jan. 23, UC Irvine will host a “fireside chat” with Larry

Irving, a former assistant secretary of commerce and Clinton

Administration technology team member.

He will discuss the status of the digital divide and answer “How

divided are we?” and “Does the Bush Administration think the divide

no longer exists?” The 7 to 8:30 p.m. event is free and open to the

public.

A reception will follow the lecture in the Humanities

Tall ships arrive Monday at museum

The tall ships Hawaiian Chieftain and Lynx will arrive Monday at

Newport Harbor Nautical Museum and will dock until Jan. 13.

The replica 18th-century tall ships and their costumed crews will

offer educational school outings, reenactment cannon battles and sail

training.

The museum, aboard a classic replica of a riverboat next to the

Back Bay Bridge, will sponsor a special battle reenactment from 4 to

7 p.m. Jan. 10. Reservations can be made by calling (949) 673-7863.

Cost is $50 for adults and $20 for children under the age of 12.

Refreshments will be served after the sail.

‘Rat Pack Mondays’ return to Maggiano’s

Maggiano’s Little Italy at South Coast Plaza will bring back “Rat

Pack Mondays” -- an evening of live music and dancing dedicated to

the memory of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. The

event will offer complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drink specials.
