Glatch sizzles at Supernationals
Alexa Glatch, a Newport Beach 13-year-old, won the singles and
doubles championships in the girls 14 division at the USATA Winter
Supernational Championsips in this past week.
In addition to her two crowns, she was awarded the Sportsmanship
Award.
Glatz also received the girls 14s Sportsmanship Award for the 2002
Southern California Section of the USTA earlier in the season.
In singles, she defeated Lauren Sabacinski of Pembroke Pines,
Fla., 6-3, 6-3 for the singles title. She defeated her doubles
partner, Logan Hansen of Santa Monica, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals.
In doubles, Alexa and her partner saved their best performance for
the final match, wowing the crowd with strong net play, deft volleys
and powerful overhead smashes -- winning, 6-0, 6-0, a rare feat for a
national championship match.
