Michigan State swims past Anteaters

The UC Irvine Anteaters lost to the Michigan State Spartans in

both the men’s (138-83) and women’s (130-94) competitions Friday.

Freshman Lara Bjargardottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) won three events

for the Anteaters. Bjargardottir was victorious in the 200-yard

freestyle with a time of 1:52.78; the 200 individual medley in

2:09.03 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.78.

Sophomore Kim Do won the 100 back in 58.95 and junior Semah

Zavareh won the 500 free with a time of 5:02.30.

In the men’s competition sophomore Phil Garcia won the 50 free in

21.29 and the 100 free in 45.94. The UCI 200 free relay team of

Garcia, freshman Larry Chong, freshman Sean O’Grady and junior Hazem

Amr won in 1:26.80.

Diver Anton Slobounov won the one-meter and three-meter

competitions with a scores of 329.55 and 366.45, respectively.

The Anteaters will duel Cal Baptist at noon on Friday at the

Anteater Aquatics Center.
