Laguna reaches area soccer final
Laguna Beach’s boys’ under-14 soccer team marched to the AYSO Area
11-L championship game last Sunday but came away one win shy of
capturing the tournament title.
The crown went instead to San Juan Capistrano, which claimed the
area following a 4-1 victory in a tournament final that was closer
than the final score might indicate.
The loss ended Laguna’s win streak at 15 games, a span in which no
opponent had come within two goals of Laguna.
In addition to defeating all eight teams in league play, Laguna
went on to win the Section tournament by beating title-winning teams
from Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo.
Area 11-L, consisting of eight cities, is considered to have the
largest number of athletes totaling more than 3,000.
Laguna won three of four matches during the weekend competition.
The Laguna Beach squad is comprised of Michael Brown, Taylor
Brusky, Mario Guzman, Matthew Ininns, Anthony Howley, Jordan Johnson,
Sean Ochwat, Edgar Rabadan, Michael Reyes, Brooks Roley, Jose Ronses,
Kyle Russell, Robert Skelton and Dalton Sype.
