CdM, Mesa squads ranked
The Corona del Mar High girls soccer team, which has posted a
58-12-14 record the last three seasons, winning three straight
Pacific Coast League titles, is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern
Section Division II preseason poll released by the section office.
The Sea Kings, guided this season by first-year coach Bryan
Middleton, have lost in the CIF Division IV semifinals each of the
last three seasons. Led by returning All-CIF performers Paige Janes,
Lauren Shepherdson, Alivia Mazura, Elisha Morgan and Jenny Long, CdM
opens its season Monday in a 3 p.m. nonleague clash with visiting
Dana Hills.
Costa Mesa, which battled CdM in the PCL the last two seasons, but
will compete in the Golden West League this season, shares the No. 10
ranking in Division III.
Coach Dan Johnston’s Mustangs, paced by All-CIF senior returner
Sharon Day, open Tuesday at 3 against nonleague visitor Rosary. Mesa
finished 13-6-4 last season, including the program’s first playoff
win in Division IV.
