Laguna Beach High’s first year competing in CIF Division I girls’

tennis ended last Thursday, just one match short of taking the season

to its extreme.

At Beverly Hills High, the top-seeded Normans (21-0) held off the

No. 4 Breakers, 13-5, to advance to the division final.

Claire Rietsch, playing at No. 2 singles, won two of three sets to

pace the Breakers.

Laguna Beach, which had won four consecutive Division V titles

before making the jump this season to Division I, scored three

playoff victories en route to its semifinal appearance. The Pacific

Coast League’s second place team defeated Canyon of Anaheim,

Chaminade and South Coast League champion Dana Hills.

Laguna Beach concluded its season at 19-5.

Second seed Calabasas (22-2) won the division by handing Beverly

Hills its first loss of the season Monday night, winning on games,

69-65.
