Woman hospitalized following collision

A traffic collision early Thursday morning in Newport Beach sent

one victim to the hospital.

The head-on collision happened around 7:40 a.m. at the

intersection of Cliff and Dover drives.

Sabrina Miller, 29, of Costa Mesa, who was going northbound on

Dover inexplicably crossed the center median and collided with a

southbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Anthony Puma, 27, of

Newport Beach.

Miller had to be extricated from her Mercury Topaz by Newport

Beach Fire Department personnel and was airlifted to Western Medical

Center in Santa Ana. She was admitted in guarded condition with

injuries that included fractures and pulmonary contusions.

Puma sustained minor injuries and did not require further medical

care.

A preliminary investigation indicated that neither alcohol nor

drug use caused the collision. The investigation is continuing.
