Goldfishies two good
Single goals by Taren Seimonsma, Teyana Moyer, Karli Kuhns and
Nikki Liddicote and two goals from Karen Foster keyed two
Goldfishies’ wins, 1-0 and 5-0, in girls under-14 AYSO Region 97
soccer action.
Melissa Mead and Brisa Garnier held opponents scoreless in goal
for the first round.
In Girls under-12 action:
* Red Crush 2, Bruisers 0
The Red Crush’s Kayla Henrie scored two goals in the second half
to lead the Crush to a shutout win.
Rebecca Slater, Charlotte Farrell, Valentina Buonanoce and Kaitlin
Kehoe made steady passes and strong defense was played by Delanie
Linden, Jordan Granath and Kelly Clark.
Sweeper Hailey Willard kept the ball in the midfield area, keyed
by Karla Navarrete and Zoie Verrall.
Goalkeepers Devyn Hartnett and Claire Layton played strong,
keeping the Bruisers from scoring.
* Blue Crush 3, Bluepants 1
Brianna Schwartz scored all three Blue Crush goals in the win.
Tori Browne assisted on Schwartz’s first goal. Spencer South and
Brittany Harris played forward and were assisted by halfbacks Kaely
Turney, Kristin Burger and Kayla Greely.
The defensive team of Hannah Weiner, Caitlin Tona, Bridget
Terrebonne and Jade Bird kept the Bluepants from scoring.
Goalkeeper Laura Catron saved more than 10 shots and won the
game’s Most Valuable Player honors.
In Girls under-10 action:
* Blue Blasters 4, Killer Bees 1
The Blasters won their final game of the season against the Killer
Bees in the Blasters’ third game of the weekend.
Blaster goals came from Cindy Mejia, Natalie Swift and Holly Kelly
and Stephanie Verheyen moved the ball effectively up the midfield.
Amanda Peterson stopped many Bee attacks and goalkeeper Reann
Nathan made seven stops. Jamie Fredriksen was pulled due to an injury
and the defense of Kate Batstone and Veronica Seidner responded well
under pressure.
* Blue Blasters 5, Green Hornets 1
Swift scored two goals to lead the Blasters to victory in their
second weekend game.
Goals to come from Mejia off an assist from Verheyen, and Kelly.
Peterson along with Seidner again led the defense and Batstone and
Fredriksen combined in goal.
* The Bratz opened the playoffs with two victories Saturday, a
1-0 decision against the Blue Blasters and a 3-0 win over the Green
Hornets.
Maria Swift scored the lone goal for the Bratz against the
Blasters on an unassisted corner kick.
The Bratz were led on defense by Claire Castillo, Sophia LeVeque,
Madelaine Gallardo, Alexandra Kehoe, Kelly Kindgren, Zoe Sanglerat
and Katie Escher.
In the 3-0 game, Courtney McIntosh scored two first-half goals and
Swift added her second goal of the tournament.
Milena Buonanoce had one assist and Brenna Landstrom and LeVeque
played solid defense.
The only game came on a Bratz corner kick as the Blasters received
strong play from Batstone, Nathan and Swift in a game featuring the
top two seeds in the bracket.
* Breakers 1, Galaxy Girls 0
In their second game Sunday, the Breakers clinched a wild-card
berth with their second shutout of the day.
Madison Walsh blasted a left-foot shot into the goal after
receiving a pass from Taylor Dittoe.
Tough defense was played by Gretchen Tingler, Kellie Conant, Mindy
Wheeler, Alise Larson, Ellen Landis and Annie Pyle.
* Breakers 2, Tsunami 0
The Breakers’ first shutout Sunday came against Tsunami, on single
goals from Tatum Norton and Walsh.
Goalkeeper Christina Young moved the ball downfield and strong
defense was provided by fullbacks Norton, Amber Eary and Robin Young.
* Blue Angels 3, Breakers 2
In a game that saw three lead changes and two ties, the Blue
Angels prevailed in the end.
The Breakers had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals from Norton, but
the Angels responded with goals from Beth Barnard, Madison Wooters
and Josie Jogwe.
Barnard tied the game, 1-1, and Wooters later equalized the game
at 2 with a goal in the last quarter before Jogwe scored to put the
Angels up for good with three minutes remaining.
Norton started her weekend assault for the Breakers with two goals
for the Breakers but it wasn’t enough to get past the Blue Angels
Saturday in the first round of playoffs.
Norton also led two attacks late in the game that were stopped by
Angels’ defender Kathryn Zimmerman.
* Blue Angels 5, Tsunamis 0
The Blue Angles started the playoffs with a shutout.
Barnard, Blakeley Ficenec, Jogwe, Wooters and Biz Buckingham
scored goals for the Angels. Buckingham’s goal was the first in her
soccer career.
The Blue Angels scored the lone second-half goal.
* Teal Tigers 3, Super Stars 0
The Teal Tigers scored their second shutout of the weekend to beat
the Super Stars Sunday.
Mary Yeager scored two goals on assists from Kristie Drake and
Brittany Stair and the Tigers first goal came from Kylee Pichirowski
in the first quarter.
Tiger goalkeeper Tabitha Goff played strong in net with help from
the defense of Sadye Busby, Abby Michaelson and Delaney Bell.
Steady passing was provided by Addison Richley, Makena Owen,
Yeager and Stair.
* Teal Tigers 1, Killer Bees 0 The Tigers edged the Bees in the Tigers’ game Saturday.
Stair’s goal with an assist by Richley proved the difference.
Goff and the defense of Busby, Michaelson and Bell kept the Bees
from scoring.
Yeager, Drake, Owen and Pichirowski led the offensive charge.
In Girls under-8 play:
* Taylor Powers scored a goal for the Zooming Zebras and
Catherine Connelly and Sally Fuller combined for three shots on goal
with assists from Cinnamon Sary and Delaney McCardle.
Nicole Fitzsimmons and Catherine Boettner keyed the defense and
Sara Hamilton had some powerful kicks. Kiani Crevello ran fast down
the field and Hanna Mumm displayed solid ball handling and Sarah Daly
lost a shoe in the mud.
* Bluewater Dolphins vs. Panthers
Page Keys and Konner Speth made solid passes for the Dolphins
while Kristine Sauders scored.
Defensively, Ingrid Peralta and Samantha Small held off the
Panthers.
In Girls under-7 play:
* Firecrackers vs. Green Cheetahs
The Cheetahs scored the first two goals from Olivia Muscatello and
McKenna Johnson and were aided by the defense of Alice Miller,
Gabriella Parisi, Megan Daly and Emily Neal.
The Firecrackers came back to tie the game on goals from Katie
Donald and Analysa Vivanco.
Teamwork and defense came from Cortlynn Clement, Emily Conant,
Alana Courier, Rosalie Deliz, Diana Fujii, Savannah Gardner, Hailey
Oberst and Andie Strode.
* The Pink Flamingos vs. The Blue Crush
Samantha Singer put the Flamingos on the board first with an
assist from Birdie Crane, Carly Liddicote and Samantha Ihle.
Kitt Durgan played solid in goal and defenders Ashley Ima and
Madison Jackson held off Blue Crush attacks.
* Silver Mustangs vs. Shooting Stars
The Silver Mustangs came out firing, with two players getting two
goals.
Kate McFetters and Makena Look each scored two goals in the third
and fourth quarters. Danni Blackman recovered the ball after a
struggle to assist on Look’s first goal.
McFetters also assisted on Sara Button’s goal in the second
quarter, the first goal of the game.
In Girls under-6 play:
* Carlee Kapana was the lone goal scorer for the Silver Dolphins
with a double assist from Alyssa Quintero and Rowan Frederiksen.
Strong offense was also provided by Amanda Sheppard and Kelly
McFetters.
Abbey Pickett, Gabbey Mangano, MacKenzie Gaddis, Rachel Whitelegge
and Kate Pipkin saved several shots on goal.
* The Green Girlillas continued their stellar play with Jaynie
Hexberg showing a solid effort on both offense and defense.
She keyed several goals and Lila McElroy, Ashley Ammerman, Haley
Heesch and Emily High displayed skills and speed in keeping the
opposition off balance.
Heesch used her speed, Ammerman attacked, McElroy kept position
and High used a strong right leg to keep the ball out of the
Girlillas’ end for most of the game.
Peyton Espley-Jones and Libby Knight tallied goals for the
Girlillas. Espley-Jones notched her 10th of the season and Knight
added her 19th.
Anna Hancock returned from an injury and contributed one goal off
a rebound off the post late in the third quarter.
