Argyros stage audience transported, coach class

Tom Titus must mean flying in coach, where your neighbor is almost

in your lap and there is barely any room for feet, when he refers to

the Julianne Argyros Stage as a splendidly intimate venue. At least

coach seats have some cushioning; these are very uncomfortable. Rows

are long, some with 20 or more seats and no aisle. I wonder how many

heavy people with ask for refunds because they cannot get into the

seats. All in all, cold, pretentious and very user-unfriendly. Some

people, leaving when we did, made similar comments. So much for this

great new theater.

Wendy Leece’s loss is our loss, as well

I just read Steve Smith’s column, “Some of us will miss Leece”

(Saturday), referencing Wendy Leece, and I just wanted to let you

know that I appreciated the article. I had considered writing a

similar article myself, but didn’t have the time, and I agree with

the perspectives and I appreciate it getting printed and having the

other side of the story told. I’m in agreement that, not only does

the board lose, but I think our students lose because she’s no longer

on the board. Thank you, Steve, for an excellent article.

Mormons are part of Newport community

Whenever I read anything in the newspaper here about this issue,

the Mormon temple issue, it sounds like the Mormons aren’t part of

the community. It’s sort of like the Mormons vs. the community, which

to me is a little bit ludicrous, because the Mormons are very much

part of the community. There’s a lot of them in this area, and I

think that the articles shouldn’t point out that the Mormons are

different than the community, but rather that the Mormons are part of

the community.

Nine feet from 99 feet is not that noticeable

This is “much ado about nothing.” I don’t think anyone can tell

the difference between a steeple 99 feet tall and 90 feet tall. I

think they should let it go and let it be a beautiful addition to the

neighborhood.

Temple issue is a tempest in a teapot

I think the whole thing is a tempest in a teapot. I think 20 feet

higher wouldn’t have bothered anybody. I think it’s just nonsense in

all respects.

Council needs to watch Planning Commission

I think that it’s a start and I congratulate Councilman Steve

Bromberg on all of the hard work that he’s done to make it come to

that point. But I have to agree with Allen Murray and his article in

the mailbag last week. I think the process was tainted, and that

council needs to take a look at how the planning commission is

handling their business; how they’re treating residents and how staff

is doing their job.

Closed trails protect parks from bicycles

I just noticed Sunday, that bike trails are now closed. Good to

see that the city conservancy, whoever is running it, is now

protecting ourselves from the park or, better yet, the park from the

public at large. Please make people aware of this and also let them

know about the City Council meeting tomorrow where this is going to

be an issue brought up.
