Mesa Verde Partners back on top
After opening the season with a surprising setback, defending
champion Mesa Verde Partners has roared back to win six consecutive
games.
In the process, they have taken over the top spot in the Wednesday
League, doing so by bumping Sports World out of first place with a
resounding, 22-4 victory in the City of Laguna Beach Men’s Summer 16
Softball Program play at Riddle Field.
Ranie Martini pitched a five hitter, one of those hits being a
three-run home run to Sports World’s Mitch Kruger in the second
inning.
Mesa Verde Partners’ potent offensive attack saw Jeff Greenough
belt two home runs, walk twice and collect five RBI, Steve McKinley
also hit a pair of homers to go along with a pair of walks, a single
and four RBI, Dave Sommerville hit a home run with two singles and
two RBI, Jeff Pich homered, singled twice and walked twice, and home
runs by Dave Meggison and Steve Bryant upped Mesa Verde Partners’
home run total to eight in the game.
Mesa Verde Partners assumed first place by improving to 6-1.
Sports World, which previously occupied the league’s top spot,
lost its first game of the season and fell to 5-1-1.
In other games:
Sofa Kings 9, Forty Majority 3
Casey Curtis and Ryan Divel each delivered two-run home runs to
help lead the Sofa Kings to victory.
Shane Mikaylo contributed a three-RBI triple and Marco Johnson
singled twice.
Mark Linton had a home run and single and Mike Ionitti hit three
singles.
The Sofa Kings improved to 3-2-2; Forty Majority slipped to 0-7.
Courtesy Auto Body 7, Hobies 1
Josh Stock hit a home run and added two singles, Mike McKenzie
homered and Bede Arabe and Dave McKenzie each had three singles to
power Courtesy Auto Body.
The win evened Courtesy Auto Body’s record at 3-3.
Brandon June singled twice for Hobies, now 2-5.
