The 13th annual Bob Hope and Dr. Howard House Golf Tournament is

being organized this summer under the stalwart leadership of local

House Ear Institute supporter Gloria Osbrink and her son Ron Osbrink,

who is serving as tournament director. The Pelican Hill Golf Club at

Newport Coast will be the site for the Sept. 16 all-day event. It

will include a lavish tournament dinner, auction and entertainment

donated by Hollywood celebrities Jim Bentley, Jonathan Banks, Mickey

Jones, David Naughton, Wil Shriner and Lyle Wagner. The elegant

Elizabeth Vincent of Harbor Island will serve as honorary chairwoman

for the golf tournament and dinner, which will also attract celebrity

players Norm Crosby, Florence Henderson, Phyllis Diller, Nanette

Fabray and very special guest of the day, radio and television

commentator Rush Limbaugh.

The tournament will consist of a lady’s and men’s scramble, with

reservations now being taken for your favorite foursome. Ron Osbrink

says the tournament is expecting “at least 144 players participating

in the Sept. 16 event.” Founded in 1946 by Dr. Howard House, the

House Ear Institute has become internationally known as a privately

funded nonprofit research, education and treatment center, helping to

cure ear disease, hearing loss and associated symptoms for people of

all ages. Rush Limbaugh was recently treated for his sudden and acute

hearing loss at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, which

reportedly helped to reverse the damage to Limbaugh’s hearing. The

well-known commentator lends his support to the upcoming fund-raiser

tournament in gratitude for the help that they gave to him. For more

information, or to book a foursome, call (949) 643-9260 or (714)

Senior center celebration

The Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar recently opened its

doors to the community to celebrate a daylong event in honor of 25

years of service to seniors. The party marked the quarter century of

“meeting the social and informational needs of older adults in our

community,” said spokeswoman Melissa Adams.

Senior services manager Celeste Jardine-Haug added, ‘’We have come

so far since Oasis was a three-room facility shared with the Carden

Hall School.”

The present Oasis Senior Center, at 800 Marguerite Ave. in Corona

del Mar, displayed plans for expansion that created a buzz throughout

the daylong celebration. The party began with a pancake breakfast and

was followed by the jazz sounds of Norm Douglas leading into a lunch

hour barbecue featuring the blue grass band of Andy Rau. All

throughout the afternoon as guests strolled through the center, the

Coyote Hills Jazz Band entertained. For more information on the Oasis

Senior Center, call (949) 644-3244.
