Mike Sciacca
Thirteen eager players representing Laguna Beach Little League will
begin their bid Saturday to bring a District 55 title back to the city
when they take on Trabuco Canyon Little League in the opening round of
the 9/10 All-Star Tournament of Champions.
The Laguna Beach-Trabuco Canyon game, which is part of the Area B
competition, will begin at noon at LaPaz Park.
Rancho Niguel Little League is the host of the 9/10 All-Star
Tournament.
Four first-round games are scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 9
a.m., and four more on Sunday, the first of which begins at 10 a.m.
North Mission Viejo and host Rancho Niguel have received first-round
byes and don’t play until Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2,
respectively.
Should Laguna Beach defeat Trabuco Hills on Saturday, they will
advance to a winner’s bracket second round game on Saturday, July 6, at 3
p.m.
A loss Saturday in the double elimination event drops them to the
“second chance” bracket for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday, July 2. Laguna
Beach would play the loser of Saturday’s matchup between Laguna Hills and
Laguna Niguel.
The Area A competition will take place with first round action
Saturday at the Youth Sports Park in Mission Viejo, and is hosted by
North Mission Viejo Little League.
The tournament’s championship game series, if needed, is set for July
16-18.
