Clippers hand Blue Devils first loss

With Cheyne Martin pouring in a game-high 38 points, the Clippers
handed the previously unbeaten Blue Devils their first loss of the
season, 84-70, in the city of Laguna Beach Junior Basketball League
action played at Laguna Beach High.
Martin came into the contest as the league’s top scorer. His 38 point
effort gives him 35 points per game average through seven games.
Coach Shawn Ridet’s squad trailed, 14-12, after one quarter but took a
23-21 lead before the half, then extended their advantage to 39-30,
53-40, and 74-58 in the second half.
Nathan Pickett scored 20 points and Ryah Arthur added 10 as the
Clippers posted their fifth consecutive victory to improve to 5-1 in
league play and 6-1 overall.
They are tied for first place with the Blue Devils (5-1, 6-1), who
received 21 points from Brendan Finnerty, 19 by Bobby Monroe and 11 by
Spencer Harrell.

Rainbows 65, Bruins 59
Coach Brandon Leahy’s Rainbows made it two straight wins with the
overtime triumph.
The Rainbows guard duo of Jeff Clark and Ian Butters scored 25 and 24
points, respectively.
Their efforts offset the double-digit scoring of the Bruins’
Christopher Hyden’s 14 points, 13 by Sam Palfreyman and 12 by Nick Witte.
The teams were tied, 56-56, at the end of regulation play.
The Rainbows evened their league record at 3-3 and improved to 3-4
overall.
The loss left the Bruins with a 2-4 league mark and 2-5 overall.
Trailblazers 82, Lakers 74
The Trailblazers needed double overtime to secure their first league
win of the season.
Brian Delino scored a league-best 40 points in a performance that
included five, three-point shots and 11 free throws.
Delino now has a 24 points per game scoring average.
Brennan Healey added nine points for Coach Trevor Lyle’s Trailblazers
who are now 1-5 in league and 2-5 overall.
Travis Grogan posted 31 points and Matthew Renault scored 27 for the
Lakers, who dropped to 2-4 in league and 2-5 overall.
The teams were knotted, 65-65, through regulation play, and 70-70
after the first overtime.
