Boys volleyball: Perrine, Wright share Sea View MVP

Newport Harbor High seniors Greg Perrine and Loyd Wright, who

guided the Sailors to a perfect Sea View League record and a berth in the

CIF Southern Section Division II quarterfinals, headline the coaches’

all-league selections as Co-Most Valuable Players.

Perrine, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, was a consistent kill leader for

the Sailors, thanks in large part to quality sets provided by Loyd.

Newport seniors Brian Gaeta, an outside hitter, and Erik Peterson, who

split time between middle blocker and opposite, are also first-team

picks.

Sophomore middle blocker Jamie Diefenbach represents the Sailors on

the second team.

Perrine, who was also league MVP in basketball, was a second-team

all-league pick as a junior outside hitter. He plans to play basketball

at Chapman University next year.

Wright, bound for Arizona, where he will play club volleyball, was a

first-team all-league choice as a junior.
