JC crew: OCC novice boat wins
The Orange Coast College freshman novice eight was victorious,
while the previously unbeaten varsity eight finished sixth in the grand
final Sunday at the Avaya Championship Regatta near Princeton University.
The varsity eight was bested by, in order of finish, Marist,
Georgetown, Michigan, Colgate and Ithica, though OCC Coach Dave Grant
said it was a close race. Times were not available.
In the novice final, OCC, coached by Jeff Moore, topped the field,
covering the 2,000-meter course in 6:15.
Michigan (6:16), Maris (6:19), Virginia (6:22), Georgetown (6:25) and
New Hampshire (6:28) rounded out the novice final.
The OCC novice eight includes Andrew Blair, Nick D’Antoni, Tom
Redouty, Chris Lentini, John Zeigler, Will Harris, Ryan Costelloe, John
Erickson and coxswain Sierra Caldwell.
OCC’s varsity eight boat consists of Mike Krueger, Alan Twigg, Jesse
Waldowski, Brian Scheele, Gints, Salaks, Matt Heitbrink, Chris Pope and
Stuart Blair. Caldwell is the coxswain.
The Pirates close out their season in the Henley Royal Regatta, July
3-7, on the Thames River in England.
