TODD BUCHHOLZ SPEAKS
Economist Todd Buchholz will speak at the Newport Beach Central
Library on Friday and Saturday as part of the Distinguished Speakers
Lecture Series. His lecture, titled “Competing and Surviving in a
Turbulent Economy,” will explore the recent stock market trends, the
viability of tech stocks, the impact of the global economic market, the
graying of America and more.
Buchholz is an expert on global economic trends and a frequent guest
on “World News Tonight,” “Nightline” and “Good Morning America.” A
teacher at Harvard University, he has served as a White House economic
advisor, as managing director of the Tiger investment fund and as an
advisor for such investment firms as the Soros Fund and Goldman Sachs.
Now chairman of Victoria Capital Management, Buchholz is a
contributing editor of Worth magazine and author of the best-selling “New
Ideas from Dead Economists” and “From Here to Economy.”
After earning a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bucknell
University, Buchholz earned a masters in philosophy from Cambridge
University, and a law degree from Harvard Law School.
Tickets for the Friday night program include dinner catered by Tommy
Bahamas Cafe and live music by Sounds of Paradise.

Get ready to do the walk-run of life
RELAY FOR LIFE
The 24-hour Relay for Life walk and run will raise funds for the
American Cancer Society, beginning at 7 p.m. at Newport Harbor High
School’s stadium. Teams of up to 20 people pay a $150 registration fee
and will walk or run throughout the 24-hour period. Each team member must
also raise at least $100 in donations. Luminarias, which contain personal
messages, for the Mile of Hope Luminary Ceremony may be purchased at the
event for a suggested $10 donation. Tents and sleeping bags are
encouraged.

Planning Ahead
WINE TASTING
The Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host a wine tasting and
auction at the South Coast Plaza Village Green. Among the participating
wineries are Mondavi, Clos du Bois, Ruffino, Burgess Cellars, Moet,
Ravenswood and Lancaster. Proceeds will benefit the Orange County
Performing Arts Center, Hoag Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Orange
County.

film star Marvin Hamlisch, whose credits include the score for “A Chorus
Line.”
