CoastKeeper fund-raiser to support clean up programs

Orange County CoastKeeper, a group dedicated to protecting the coastal
waters in Southern California, will be holding a fund-raiser on Wednesday
in Huntington Beach.
The environmental group has scheduled the event for 6 to 10 p.m. at
Chimayo at the Beach at the base of the Huntington Beach Pier.
There will be a raffle and live music and food provided by the
restaurant.
CoastKeeper leaders Garry Brown, who lives in Huntington Harbour, and
Randy Seaton are active in a number of environmental causes that have
benefited the city.
Last summer, the group launched a $379,000 testing effort to determine
the level of contamination in the harbor.
The group has also been actively working to eradicate the saltwater
seaweed Caulerpa taxifolia, dubbed “killer algae” because it carpets
seabeds and drives out native vegetation and fish nurseries. The algae
has been found in the Seagate lagoons off the harbor.
The CoastKeeper event costs $35 at the door or $30 if payment is
received in advance. The fund-raiser will support programs within the
community.
To attend the event, call the group at (949) 723-5424.
