John Wayne terminal to close for construction
-- Deepa Bharath
John Wayne Airport will close a portion of its northwest parking
structure beginning Monday for a seismic refitting project. The parking
structure is located adjacent to the terminal on the north end.
The $3-million project, involving the northwest and southwest parking
structures, is expected to be completed in two phases -- May 6 through
October and mid-October through April 2003. Retrofit work will begin on
levels one and two of the northwest parking structure on May 20 and will
last about 12 weeks.
Levels three and four of the A1 garage will remain open for public use
during the construction. In mid-August level one will reopen and levels
three and four will close until mid-October.
Airport officials are encouraging the public to use the east parking
structure in addition to curbside valet parking and Main Street parking
during the construction. Shuttle service to and from the terminal is
being provided every 15 minutes from the Main Street lot.
