The 22nd annual Clean Harbor Day will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today
at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum. Hundreds of volunteers, including
youth groups and adults from all over Orange County, will pick up trash
and debris from harbor beaches. Volunteers will return to the museum
after the cleanup for a complimentary barbecue and entertainment.

Costa Mesa Boy Scout Troop 106 will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to

The March of Dimes WalkAmerica will begin with registration at 6:30
a.m. and the walk starting at 8:15 a.m. at Fashion Island in Newport

Six private residential gardens in Corona del Mar and Newport Beach
will be spotlighted during the Volunteer Assn. of Sherman Library &
Gardens’ sixth annual garden tour from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments
will be served at Sherman Library & Gardens at 2647 E. Coast Highway,

maintenance of the historical and botanical collections at the library

The Orange County Charity Bash will be held from 3 to 11 p.m. at the
Hilton Costa Mesa Hotel at 3050 Bristol St., Costa Mesa. Eight hours of
live, continuous dance music, including jazz, big band, Latin and swing

nonprofit organizations that provide services to stroke victims and

John Hagelin will speak about preventing terrorism at 3:30 p.m. in the
Monarch Bay Room in the UC Irvine Student Center at UC Irvine. The forum
titled “Strengthening Democracy” is sponsored by the Staff Assembly
Toastmasters. Hagelin just returned from Hiroshima, where he delivered
the keynote address for the International Symposium on World Peace. In
addition to Hagelin, three candidates for governor of California will
speak. They include Iris Adam of the Natural Law Party, Peter Camjo of
the Green Party and Gary Copeland of the Libertarian Party. The public
will have an opportunity to ask speakers questions after their

The first of the five-day 29th annual Newport In-Water Boat Show will
begin today at noon and run until 7 p.m. at the Newport Dunes Waterfront

hundreds of yachts, sport fishers, sailboats and speedboats. Experts will
be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the latest products. $10,

To kick off National Strawberry Month, the Orange County Market Place
will hold the third annual Strawberry Sunday Funfest and Classic Car Show
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Automotive Road of Dreams area of the swap

A dozen congregations will hold a peace vigil from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 420 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa.
Participants will march on 19th Street between Newport and Harbor
boulevards carrying signs saying “Pray for Peace” and “Pray for our

UC Irvine’s Center for the Study of Democracy will showcase former
senator Alan K. Simpson (R-Wyo.), who will speak on why politics is a
contact sport for UC Irvine’s 2001-02 Peltason Lecture on Democracy at
3:30 p.m. in 1100 Social Science Plaza A, at UC Irvine. Simpson is known
for his bipartisan work on immigration and veterans’ issues and his
clashes with the press corps. He will answer questions after the

conclude this month with cyber-rights guardian Pamela Samuelson speaking

and information management and director of UC Berkeley’s Center for Law

More than 100 classic Mercedes-Benz cars will be showcased during the
25th annual Classic Mercedes-Benz Exhibition beginning May 4 and running
through May 5, at Fletcher Jones Motorcars, 3300 Jamboree Road, Newport
Beach. Vehicles on display will include the World War II-era SSK
Roadster, the SL300 Gullwing and Silver Arrows, and newer cars such as
the redesigned 2003 SL500 Roadster, G500 sport-utility vehicle, C230
