Men’s golf: Pirates second at OEC Tournament
The Orange Coast College men’s golf team defeated Riverside,
Santiago Canyon and Irvine Valley Monday to claim sole possession of
second place, behind victorious Saddleback at the Orange Empire
Conference Championships at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
Lou Carrasco shot 148 over 36 holes, the fourth-best score of the day,
to pace the Pirates, who finished with a team score of 767. Conference
champion Saddleback shot 733.
Additional scorers for the Pirates were Fredrik Svanberg (154), Go
Koyama (154), Kelly Wicks (155), Eric Moore (158) and Brock Noteboom
(158).
Carrasco, Svanberg and Wicks earn all-conference honors, based on
year-long scoring average, while Koyama won the award, presented annually
by the conference coaches, which goes to the player who best displays
character, courage and sportsmanship.
Irvine Valley’s Jeff Montoya, a teammate of Carrasco’s at Costa Mesa
High, was the medalist Monday with a two-round total of 141.
Saddleback’s Matt Schreiber, however, is declared the OEC individual
champion, based on season-long scoring.
OCC advances to the Southern California Regionals, scheduled Monday.
