Prep baseball: Aliso trounces Tars
NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High senior Cameron Pemstein cracked
a two-run single to right field in the third inning to produce the host
Sailors’ only runs in a 15-2 Sea View League baseball loss to Aliso
Niguel Monday.
Senior Shane Glenn and sophomore Mike McLean singled, then advanced to
second and third, respectively, on a one-out groundout to set the stage
for Pemstein, whose single followed a walk to Jon Vandersloot.
Adam Cherry, Ryan Heenan, Andre Pinesett and Mike Jones also had
singles for the Sailors.
Aliso Niguel had seven extra-base hits among its 17-hit attack. The
Wolverines scored three runs in each of the first two innings, posted
single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth, then extended the lead
with a six-run seventh.
Jones, playing shortstop, made a diving stop, scrambled to his feet
and threw the runner out at first to highlight Harbor’s defensive effort.
Newport Harbor (4-17, 0-13 in league) continues Sea View League play
Wednesday when it hosts Irvine at 3:15 p.m.
