HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY DISTRICT WRAP-UP
Vote: 5-0
IN FAVOR / AGAINST
WHAT HAPPENED:
The school board certified the election results for Measure DD, which
passed on March 5, and set up an advisory committee to track how the
money is spent.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Orange County can now move forward in issuing revenue bonds for
improvements in the Huntington Beach City School District. The measure,
which passed on a 60% margin, could raise as much as $30 million to
repair and replace leaky roofs, ancient heating and ventilation systems
and aging fire alarms.
The advisory committee will inform the public about how the bonds’
revenue is spent.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors is the entity charged with
issuing the bonds.
Vote: 5-0
IN FAVOR / AGAINST
WHAT HAPPENED:
The school board approved a request to the Orange County Board of
Supervisors to issue $20 million in revenue bonds from Measure DD.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The district is moving forward with its first chunk of bond revenue to
pay for much-needed improvements to aging schools in Huntington Beach.
The bond money will allow the district to tap into $16.7 million in
state matching funds for the work.
One of the district’s top priorities is Dwyer Middle School, which is
67 years old and in desperate need of a face lift, officials have said.
