Supervisors stay neutral on Measure W lawsuit

The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday decided not to take

a stance on a lawsuit that seeks to overturn Measure W, the initiative

passed in March that rezones the closed El Toro Marine base for park use.

The supervisors made the decision in closed session, where they

decided to remain neutral while continuing to monitor the lawsuit.

The Orange County Regional Airport Authority, a loose coalition of

North County cities that includes Costa Mesa, filed the March 18

challenge, claiming the initiative is “unconstitutional, invalid and

unenforceable.”

The Airport Working Group, Citizens for Jobs and the Economy and

Garden Grove also joined the suit.

The anti-airport measure passed March 5 with a 58% countywide

approval.
