Community college men’s volleyball: Pirates win OEC title, again
SAN MARCOS - The undefeated Orange Coast College men’s volleyball
team clinched its second straight Orange Empire Conference championship
after a 30-20, 30-27, 30-15 road victory over Palomar Wednesday.
Sophomores John Campbell and Jeff Taylor led the Pirates (19-0, 15-0
in the OEC) with 14 kills each, while freshman Zach Jardine added 11.
Scoot Winant, an OCC sophomore setter, contributed 36 digs, and sophomore
libero Greg Ford chipped in 12 digs to send Palomar to 4-13, 2-12.
Cutenese said his Pirates were excited about the news of another OEC
title, but more focused of the ultimate goal: a state title. The Southern
California Regionals begin April 23.
Coast will host Irvine Valley, where Winant and Ford played last year,
Friday at 7 p.m.
