College women’s basketball: Edmiston ends career as Lion of the
Week
COSTA MESA - Erin Edmiston, a senior for the Vanguard University
women’s basketball team, ended her two-year career as Lion of the Week
after leading the team in scoring at the NAIA National Tournament March
13.
Edmiston (the Lion of the Week ending March 18) has supplied a charge
to the team this season as an aggressive player and defensive standout
for the Lions, as well as being the second leading scorer on the team
with nine points per game.
The Lions, unseeded in the 32-team tournament, lost, 87-65, to No.
seeded Central State University of Ohio, in the first round of the NAIA
National Tournament in Jackson, Tennessee. Edmiston paced the Lions
against CSU (27-1) with a team-high 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. She also grabbed five rebounds and added an assist in 29
minutes of play.
Edmiston, a 5-foot-10 forward from Midpines, Calif., transferred to
Vanguard from Saddleback College last year and completed her 56-game
career this past week with her first trip to the NAIA Tournament with the
Lions. She amassed 411 points in her career at Vanguard and earned Lion
of the Week honors for the second time this season.
