APRIL 1

The Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach, the Hilton

Waterfront Resort and Spa and local salons are teaming up to raise money

for abused children. The Hair-cut-a-thon will cut hair for children and

adults for $5. There will be a goodie basket raffle, face painting and

balloons. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1 at the

Hilton Waterfront in the Pavilion, 21100 Pacific Coast Highway.

APRIL 3

The Artists Corner Gallery will show “Contemporary Friends,” an

exhibit of watercolor and mixed-media paintings by Barbara Lawson and

The Huntington Beach Public Library is hosting a “Dragon Tales” puppet

show. Randall McGee and his dragon Groark will perform at 11 a.m. and 1

The USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 53 will offer a 4-lesson course in boating

safety at 6 p.m. Wednesdays starting April 3. Classes will be held at the

Boat/U.S. Marine Center, 16390 Pacific Coast Highway. The course is

designed for the limited-classroom-time boater, personal watercraft

operators and covers introduction to boating laws, safety equipment,

navigation rules followed by a Certificate of Completion. Fee is $19.

The Orange County CoastKeeper and the city of Huntington Beach will

hold the first Huntington Harbour Cleanup & Awareness Day. Volunteers

The Huntington Beach Library will kick off National Library Week with

a performance by the South Coast Repertory Youth Players on Saturday,

The Sierra Club’s Orange County Sierra Singles holds a fast-paced

Optimum Boot Camp, a fitness class on the beach, is offering 47

classes a week. Morning classes are at 5:30 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 8 a.m. 9:15

p.m. There is a shortened schedule on weekends. Classes include a

military-style obstacle course, cardiovascular endurance, fat burning and

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical, to Broadway, to contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, Huntington Beach Pier

Plaza, and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The Huntington Beach Concert

Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and over. Rehearsals are

held 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the band room at Marina High School
