CdM youth soccer team wins two

The Corona del Mar seventh grade boys soccer team closed out league

play with two straight victories and enters the seventh grade

championship tournament with a 5-1 record.

CdM defeated Harbor Day, 2-0, and Costa Mesa on penalty kicks. Against

Harbor Day, forward Tony Jones scored off Jon Wheeler’s rebound to get

things going for CdM. Allen Hardison added an unassisted goal later in

the first period. Jonathan Hange and Amman Saami shared goalkeeping

duties to earn the shutout.

Leading Harbor Day were Derek Larson, Jeffrey Larson and Richard

Gadbois.

Against Mesa, CdM battled to a 0-0 tie and earned the win, 3-1, in

penalty kicks. Hange kept Mesa scoreless with several key saves,

including three game-saving stops. Saami kept the shutout going in the

second half with a crucial save late in the game.

Bryan Burke, Hardison and Wheeler scored on penalty kicks to hand CdM

the win.
