IRVINE - Corona del Mar’s club roller hockey team defeated Fountain
Valley, 9-1, Feb. 26 at the Gretzky Center in Irvine.
CdM sent 20 shots on goal, while CdM goalie Eric Mirowitz faced 16
Fountain Valley shots. Adam Freede produced a hat trick and two assists
for the CdM club team, while teammate Austin Chase also had a hat trick
and one assist. David Bolton earned an assist on one of Chase’s goals,
Cole Reddin added two goals and two assists and Gary Smith scored with an
assist from Blake Smith, who also was credited with an assist on one of
Reddin’s goals.
With Darren De la Cruz, the league’s top scorer, out with injuries and
three other key players unavailable, Fountain Valley struggled when
trying to penetrate CdM’s defense or stop CdM’s scoring attack.
The Newport Harbor club roller hockey team delivered an astounding 58
shots on goal, resulting in an 8-1 victory over Santa Margarita at the
Gretzky Center in Irvine Sunday.
Jesus Sotelo scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead
Newport, while Zach Boston contributed two goals and three assists.
Collin Insley added two goals and two assists, and Bryce Henrie chipped
in one assist.
With additional support from Kyle Pfeiffer, Chris Willard, Lindsay
Taylor and Kevin Harris, Newport kept Santa Margarita contained in its
defensive zone for most of the game, allowing 11 shots on goal, and
Newport goalie Jake Merzoian stopped 10.
Ryan Iverson’s goal with 14 seconds left led the Squirt Division’s
Storm roller hockey club past the Chaos, 6-5, at the Gretzky Center. The
Squirt Division is 12 and under, and the Storm club is mostly made up of
players from the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach area.
The Storms’ Joey Arnoni and Iverson scored two goals each, while
Clayton Conway and Brian Ivie added one goal each.
The defensive unit of Taylor Kirby, Andrew Hodel, Matt Stahovich and
Luke Herzog helped stop a tenacious third-period attack by the Chaos.
Storm goaltender A.J. Allen stopped 20 shots.
