Girls basketball: Mesa tops Laguna, 55-29
LAGUNA BEACH - Junior Rhondi Naff scored 23 points and pulled down
six rebounds as Costa Mesa High’s girls basketball team defeated host
Laguna Beach, 55-29, Thursday in a Pacific Coast League finale.
The Mustangs (11-15, 5-5 in the PCL) will play Northwood tonight at 7
o’clock at University High for third place and the league’s final
automatic CIF Southern Section playoff spot. The Mustangs are seeking
their 13th straight postseason appearance.
In their win over the Artists (3-20, 0-10), the Mustangs were also led
by junior guard Stacee Sanchez (10 points) and senior guard Eileen Bello
(five assists). Naff and Sanchez added two steals each.
