Will Guzman scored on a penalty kick with five minutes left to lead

Newport Harbor High to a 2-1 victory over visiting Laguna Hills in a Sea

View League boys soccer game Friday.

With the victory, the Sailors (9-6-1, 5-2 in league) are tied with

Woodbridge for the league lead.

The Sailors were down, 1-0, at halftime against Laguna Hills, but Matt

Tracy scored on a header 15 minutes into the second half to knot the

score, 1-1. Tracy put the ball in the net off a corner kick from Jose

Serpas.

Serpas also played a key role in the last goal. He drew the penalty

shot that led to Guzman’s game-winner.

Hector Campos made six saves to earn the victory while Laguna Hills’

goalkeeper tallied seven. Kevin Campos contributed on defense for

Newport.

The Sailors were still without senior co-captain Tyson Wahl, who

suffered a back injury while weight lifting and will be out at least a

week, Newport assistant Coach Ryan Hernandez said.
