Girls basketball: Sailors fall

Newport Harbor High fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a

52-28 loss to host Irvine in a Sea View League girls basketball game

Tuesday.

Irvine went on a 12-4 run in the first quarter and took a 29-9 lead at

halftime.

Jillianne Whitfield led the Sailors (4-18, 1-5) with nine points.

Victoria Swigart chipped in with six points while Amanda Campbell pitched

in five points and four rebounds. Evita Castillo grabbed seven boards

while Athena Vasquez grabbed five for Newport.
