Youth soccer: Slammers roll
The Newport Beach Slammers boys under-11 Gold soccer team defeated
CFC Italia of Cypress, 2-1, to win the Coast Soccer League championship.
The Slammers earned the League Cup out of 68 club soccer teams in
Southern California and will advance to the State Cup championships next
month in San Bernardino.
In girls under-10 action:
* The Newport Beach Slammers won their third tournament of the season
by taking top honors at the Orange Coast United Invitational in Costa
Mesa.
In the championship game, the Slammers shut out Canyon PSA with a 4-0
win. Zoe Dickson, Gabriela Trenton, Aubrey Georgianni, Danielle
Wisniewski, Gillian Hogan and Cynthia Bui dominated the offense with 15
goals for the weekend. The defense allowed only one goal in the
tournament and was led by Arielle Lysacek, Kali Fournier, Taylor Nicolosi
and goalkeeper Kate Baldoni.
In qualifying games, the Slammers shut out South Bay Force, 5-0, and
the Claremont Stars, 2-0. Tustin also fell to the Slammers, 4-1.
The Slammers advance to the State Cup in February.
