Girls basketball: Mesa downed, 49-39
COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High girls basketball team was
outscored 7-0 in the final minute and lost, 49-39, to Pacific Coast
League visitor University Thursday.
Junior Rhondi Naff led the Mustangs (8-13, 2-4 in the PCL) with 16
points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
“We were down by three with less than a minute, but we couldn’t get a
shot,” Costa Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. “Their last five points were on
free throws over the last 20 seconds. But that was one of our best
efforts of the year. We really played hard. We broke their press really
well. Hopefully we can keep this going till the end of the year.”
PCL leader University improved to 14-7, 6-0.
The Mustangs will resume PCL action Tuesday at 7 p.m., playing at
Northwood.
