Girls basketball: Estancia 15th

HUNTINGTON BEACH - Xochitl Byfield scored 20 points, Trisha Wase 19

and Tisha Gray 17 to lead the Estancia High girls basketball team to a

73-20 victory over Steveston of British Columbia, Canada Saturday in the

15th-place final of the Larry Doyle Memorial Tournament at Marina High.

Gray, a junior forward, as well as Wase, a sophomore guard, drained

three three-pointers as the Eagles (6-9) connected on eight three-point

attempts as a team.

Friday, Estancia saw a 38-31 lead disappear in a 50-44 loss to Villa

Park in a 13th-place semifinal.

Gray scored all of her game-high 17 points before halftime and the

Eagles’s hopes were damaged when two starters fouled out with several

minutes remaining.

The Eagles were also hurt by converting only 4 of 15 free-throw

attempts.
