The Newport Harbor High girls soccer team knocked off two opponents

Foothill High.

The Sailors shut out Buena, 1-0, in the second round and defeated Dana

Hills, 4-2, in a quarterfinal game.

Against Buena, Kate Younglove scored with an assist from Amy

Burlingham in the 14th minute of the second half. Goalkeeper Kara DeMille

made two saves to record her third straight shutout for the Sailors.

Newport Harbor outshot Buena, 7-2, although neither goalkeeper

registered a save in the first half.

Against Dana Hills, Burlingham scored on a breakaway four minutes into

the game to tie the score, 1-1.

The Dophins scored in the third minute of the second half, but, three

minutes later, Burlingham struck again on a breakaway to knot the score

at 2.

Newport Harbor took over from there with goals from Tory Manchester

and Amy Ross. Burlingham and Barbara Julian had assists.

Sailors’ Coach Jason Sorrell said his squad played well on defense,

with solid efforts from Kristin Nahin, Taryn Flamson, Erin Hardy and

Lauren Birchfield.

DeMille made two saves for the Sailors (4-4-1), who face Marina in a
