‘Fiesta Latina’ auditions on Jan. 30
Orange Coast College’s dance department will hold auditions Jan. 30 for
“Fiesta Latina,” a dance and cultural heritage outreach.
Those who audition are not required to have Latin dance training,
although dance training in ballet, modern or jazz is helpful. Auditioners
must be at least a junior in high school.
People selected for “Fiesta Latina,” which will be held May 3 from 10
a.m. to noon, must enroll in an OCC dance class in the spring that is set
to meet from 11:30 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
Auditions will be held starting at 11:30 a.m. in OCC’s Dance Studio C,
2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.
The group will perform under the direction of professor Jose Costas.

Auditions to be held for dance workshop
Auditions for a special Orange Coast College dance workshop with guest
choreographer Douglas Nielsen will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 14. The
workshop class, which is free, will take place the week of Jan. 14 from 3
to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
During the class, Nielsen will choreograph a work to be performed at the
Student Dance Concert, April 19-20.
Nielsen, a former principal dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company of
Israel, serves as associate professor of dance at Cal State Long Beach.
He is the recipient of four choreography fellowships from the National
Endowment for the Arts. In 1988, he helped blueprint the first
experimental modern dance company in China, the Guandong Dance Company.
The auditions and class will be held in OCC’s Dance Studio B, 2701
Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.
